After the announcement that AIM will be giving him a lifetime achievement award, Edwyn Collins has told BBC 6 Music that he will be releasing a new album next year.
The album will be called Understated, and will feature 11 songs, two of which were co-written by Richard Hawley. The LP will be the follow-up to 2010’s
Losing Sleep, and Collins added that the album’s sound will be "northern soul, crossed over with punk".
Additionally, there’s also a film about the singer currently in the works. Your Voice, In Your Heart is being made by Pulse Films and will touch on Collins’s recovery from his stroke in 2005, with an original score being provided by Hawley.
Directors James Hall and Ed Lovelace say: "Blurring the line between fiction and documentary we explore the world of Edwyn’s subconscious – a place inhabited by fragmented ideas and forgotten memories. Each story Edwyn tells is another piece of a shattered identity we gradually see re-emerging in front of us."
