Dragnet Literary Tent For Village Green

New noir-themed happenings at Southend festival

Next weekend, July 12, will see Southend-on-Sea’s Chalkwell Park playing host to the Village Green festival. Alongside a fine musical line-up (take a look at the poster above), there’ll be a literary tent, Dragnet, curated by Cathi Unsworth, Travis Elborough and Syd Moore. Under a theme of noir crime and mystery, they’ve assembled a brilliant line-up of speakers and musicians. Among the highlights are psychogeographers Iain Sinclair and Chris Petit exploring the life of English crime writer Derek Raymond, Unsworth talking to Elborough "about the Dark Currents that run between the coast and crime fiction" and Mark Pilkington and Moore guiding us through Fortean curiosities – witches, smugglers and highwaymen – as well as music from The Sohemian Society Players and Sophie Loyer.
