Antony Hegarty writes a new song for Lynette Wallworth's film Coral Rekindling Venus

Antony Hegarty, who as we previously reported is set to release his fifth album Cut The World to coincide with his curating of the Meltdown Festival in London, has recorded a song for Lynette Wallworth’s film about coral reefs Coral Rekindling Venus. It’s a stripped back, piano-and-voice affair which recalls similar songs he’s recorded in the past that take the environment as their chief concern. Listen below, accompanied by visuals from the film.

It’s been made available to download from the Coral Rekindling Venus site, either for free or in exchange for a donation to the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre for Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. Click here for more information and to download.

In his manifesto to accompany Meltdown, Hegarty said: “Today I am among a group of artists from NYC (some of whom are performing at this Meltdown Festival) who reject patriarchy in its myriad virulent and apocalyptic manifestations, and who advocate for a fundamental shift towards the feminine in all our systems and structures of governance. We have named this approach Future Feminism." He has specially referenced one of the apocalyptic manifestations of patriarchy towards the destruction of the environment, so his choice to write a song accompanying this film dovetails neatly with that attitude.
