Diagonal, the label run by Powell and Jaime Williams whose releases thus far have come from Powell himself and Blood Music, have a busy rest of the year lined up. A new EP from Shit & Shine is due to arrive soon through the label, and a recent announcement also also promised upcoming material from Russell Haswell and Prostitutes. Which sounds set to be quite the impressive run of music for the near future.
In the meantime, Diagonal are hosting a label night this Wednesday, 7th August, at London’s Lexington. It’s headed up by Shit & Shine, Craig Clouse’s ongoing project with a revolving line-up which has taken various stylistic pathways since first beginning to release music in 2004. His upcoming EP for Diagonal shifts away from the noise rock with which Clouse is frequently associated to gather together four slices of strange, twisted club music. For this London show we’re promised "ear-splitting volume and a stage full of bunnies". Also on the bill are Blood Music, fresh from the release of their recent Diagonal EP, who "wield drum machines, guitars, drum kits, contact mics, noise and synthesisers to create pummelling tunnels of propulsive torque", and Karl O’Connor (commonly known as Birmingham techno figurehead Regis), who will be DJing under his Sandra Electronics guise. The line-up is rounded off by Powell himself, who will be DJing between acts – expect splatterings of techno, industrial, no-wave and post-punk, and probably a few tracks by the man himself.
