Depeche Mode have issued a statement denouncing claims by white nationalist Richard Spencer that they are "the band of the alt-right".
A representative for the band told Pitchfork: "That is a ridiculous statement. Depeche Mode has no ties to Richard Spencer or the alt-right and does not support the alt-right movement."
Spencer made the statement earlier today outside the Conservative Political Action Conference, and it was reported on Twitter by New York Magazine‘s Olivia Nuzzi. Spencer later tweeted that the claim was a joke, adding that he was a lifelong fan of the band.
