German record label Denovali have announced that they are to hold the inaugural London edition their annual Swingfest festival on the weekend of April 20th-21st.
The German edition of the festival has been running since 2007 in Essen, hosting artists whose approach is in line with the label’s overall aesthetic: the likes of Philip Jeck, Hauschka, Thomas Koner, Moritz Von Oswald Trio, Nadja, Sunn O))) and more. This year the label is expanding the festival to include editions in London and Berlin.
The London edition takes place at the Scala and features a wide-ranging line-up, split across Saturday 20th April and Sunday 21st April. Saturday’s headliner is yet-to-be-announced – we’re told to expect an announcement soon – but will be joined by Fennesz, Maybeshewill, Bersarin Quartet, Omega Massif, Petrels and The Pirate Ship Quintet. The Quietus will also be putting in a DJ appearance to spin some music at night’s end.
Sunday’s line-up is headed up by William Basinski, fresh off the back of re-releasing his classic Disintegration Loops as a deluxe boxset (you can read his in-depth interview with tQ’s John Doran here). He will be joined by Thomas Koner, whose Novaya Zemlya landed in our albums of 2012 list, alongside Greg Haines, James Blackshaw, Poppy Ackroyd, Carlos Cipa and Talvihorros.
