David Lynch has self-directed the video for ‘Crazy Clown Time’, the title track from his debut album which was released late last year. It’s the first film on general release Lynch has directed for quite some time – since 2006’s labyrinthine three-hour opus Inland Empire, no less – and finds him interpreting the song’s lyrics in a rather literal way. In his own words: “an intense psychotic backyard craziness, fueled by beer”. Across seven minutes it features various female characters in varying states of undress, various male characters in varying states of disturbance and the director himself in musician mode: classic Lynch, essentially, and filmed in the same digital handheld style that he used on Inland Empire. Watch the video above (and be warned – it’s pretty NSFW in places).
