David Lynch Auction Collects Over $4 Million in Total

The biggest single sale in the collection was scripts for the late director's unmade film project Ronnie Rocket, which went for $195,000

An auction of personal items, film memorabilia and other material belonging to the late David Lynch has collected over $4 million.

Taking place last Wednesday (June 18) both online and at an auction house in Gardena, California, the sale encompassed around 450 belongings of the legendary filmmaker, writer and musician. The biggest single sale was scripts for his unmade film project Ronnie Rocket, which went for $195,000, as The Guardian reports.

11 total scripts for Ronnie Rocket: The Absurd Mystery Of The Strange Forces Of Existence were collected together as a single item in the sale. Lynch started working on the screenplay for the film after completing his 1977 debut, Eraserhead, but scrapped the project when he was unable to secure financing.

Other significant sales in the auction included scripts from the production of Mulholland Drive and the pilot episode of Twin Peaks, which sold for $104,000 and $91,000 respectively, plus his director’s chair, which went for $70,000.

His beloved La Marzocco GS/3 home espresso machine sold for $45,500, while his custom-built guitar with five fretted necks went for $39,000. A red curtain and black and white zigzag rug, in the style of the Black Lodge from Twin Peaks, collected $32,500.

All of the money collected in the auction goes directly to Lynch’s estate.

Lynch died in January of this year, aged 78. read tQ’s obituary of the pioneering filmmaker here.
