Tomorrow, BBC 6 Music will be airing ‘Radio Show’, a never-before-broadcast 15-minute radio programme David Bowie recorded in 1973 to promote his Pin Ups album.
Bowie presents the show under his real name, David Jones, playing five tracks from the album, ‘Rosalyn’, ‘Here Comes The Night’, ‘I Wish You Would’, ‘Sorrow’ and ‘I Can’t Explain’, and talking about the contemporary London music scene. It was made with Ken Scott, who’d worked with Bowie on his three previous albums, Hunky Dory, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars and Aladdin Sane.
Talking about the find, Nigel Reeve, who overlooks Bowie’s back catalogue, said: "I discovered it during some research several years ago. It was in an old tape vault on 1/4" tape with simply the words ‘Radio Show’ written on it. This is such a rare find. No one knew of its existence, apart from David and Ken. To play it for the first time was quite simply a jaw-dropping moment.”
6 Music will be broadcasting it in clips throughout the day, to mark forty years since Pin Ups‘ release, with segments featured on the Shaun Keaveny, Lauren Laverne, Radcliffe & Maconie, Steve Lamacq and Marc Riley shows.
