A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to support a film, starring Damo Suzuki in the lead role, about a man dealing with a cancer diagnosis. The Future Stone is being produced by Zero Films and directed by twenty-one-year-old Cameron Lee, who met the former Can vocalist at a gig little over a year ago.
Drawn to the Scottish island of Jura as the aesthetic backdrop for the film, and influenced by the works of Iranian film-maker Abbas Kiarostami, we’re told that “The Future Stone follows a content, middle class man played by Damo Suzuki, whose comfortable life is inadvertently disrupted by the diagnosis of an incurable tumour. The diagnosis begins a pilgrimage to rural Jura, a pilgrimage augmented by the myths and legends of the Scottish island, including a mysterious stone said to predict the future of anybody who leans against it. The film is a bold and ambitious attempt by both writer and director Lee, and actor Suzuki, to explore the themes of illness and suicide in a visually driven way.”
