Following an excellent week of events at the start of the year, CTM returns to Berlin for its 17th edition in January of next year.
Once again, CTM will all be operated under a specific theme and this year’s is ‘New Geographies’. With the theme, CTM 2016 “aims to present a range of artistic forms from the present and recent past in order to explore the central roles that this hybridity and relational geography now plays in the global music scene. The 17th edition thus aims to explore music and sound practices that respond to these developments, and to provide the conceptual tools needed to approach the complexities of a polycentric, polychromatic and increasingly hybrid (music) world with greater openness.”
CTM 2016 will be co-curated together with Rabih Beaini, otherwise known as Morphosis and the man behind Morphine Records, responsible for recent excellent releases from Charles Cohen and Metasplice among others and a label that explores different strands of house, techno, experimentalism and avant-garde electronic music. As usual, CTM will also host a collection of workshops and discussions in addition to its music line-up. There are also two calls for works as part of schemes set up by CTM to be presented in Berlin. These are the CTM 2016 Radio Lab for works exploring hybrid live and radio formats – the deadline for that is September 15 – and the European Network for Contemporary Audiovisual Creation which calls for audiovisual residencies at a number of events including CTM Berlin – the deadline for that is August 12.
The first artist announcements for CTM 2016 will come in October with the events, as usual, taking place at a number of venues across Berlin, including Berghain, Hebbel am Ufer and Yaam. CTM 2016 takes place from January 29 – February 7 and you can find more details here. You can also read what happened when tQ visited CTM 2015 here.
