WATCH: Consumer Electronics Live

STICK YOUR EYES ON THIS FUCKS!

Over the past couple of years Consumer Electronics have gradually – if a group who do things with such intensity are capable of the ‘gradual’ – emerged as our leading, vicious chroniclers of everything that is grotty and wrong about modern England while being a huge amount of fun while doing so. Much is made of power electronics dialogue with industrial music, but arguably only Consumer Electronics scratch and expose the hypocritical sore that had Nicholas Fairburn denounce Throbbing Gristle as "wreckers of civilisation" before he was eventually exposed as an incestuous nonce. With the assistance of Russell Haswell, Consumer Electronics albums Estuary English and Dollhouse Songs have explored the parts of our national mood that few others dare to tread in violent, but oddly increasingly accessible, racket. As Philip Best tweeted the other day after their gig in Salford, "Young audience, 20somethings, large proportion females. Nothing at all to do with PE anymore." Happily, you can now watch that gig via the embed above. The live footage was shot at Islington Mill, The Quietus’ northern spiritual home, by IMPATV. They’re shooting and distributing live sets from the Salford venue, with a view to establishing an independent TV station within the Islington Mill over the coming months and years. This fills us with great hope for the future. They’ll be doing an eight hour live broadcast from the Sounds From The Other City festival, at which we have a stage featuring the likes of Ill and Chrononautz. Consumer Electronics play The Exchange in Bristol tonight, Cafe Oto in London on Saturday, April 2nd and Cambridge Portland Arms on Sunday 3rd.
