Optimo Music To Release Coil Rarity For Charity

'A Cold Cell In Bangkok' will be released on vinyl for the first time

A Coil rarity will receive its first vinyl pressing this year via Optimo Music in order to raise money for the charity Safe Child Thailand.

As Resident Advisor reports, ‘A Cold Cell In Bangkok’ is late Coil member Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson’s remix of the band’s track ‘A Cold Cell’, which was originally released on 2005 album The Ape Of Naples. The remix came about after Optimo’s Keith McIvor, aka JD Twitch, contacted Christopherson with the intention of featuring the original track in his 2008 compilation Sleepwalking, with the late Coil member instead offering to remix the track especially for the release.

Christopherson died in 2010, six years after the death of his partner, and the group’s other core member, Jhonn Balance. Now, the remix will be released in September on vinyl, with proceeds to go to a charity that McIvor felt would make sense to connect to the release.

"In the last years of his life, Peter Christopherson had made Thailand his home and fallen in love with the country and its people, so I feel he would have approved of this use of funds generated by his music," McIvor explains. You can hear the track above.
