Cocteau Twins and Harold Budd Reveal ‘The Moon And The Melodies’ Reissue

The album is back on vinyl for the first time since its original 1986 release

Cocteau Twins and Harold Budd’s 1986 collaborative album The Moon And The Melodies is getting a first-time reissue.

Marking the first time the record has been made available on vinyl since its original release almost 40 years ago, the reissue features the full original record, remastered from the original tapes by Cocteau Twins’ Robin Guthrie. It will be made available across LP, CD and digital formats.

A relative outlier in Cocteau Twins’ back catalogue, The Moon And The Melodies is largely instrumental and leans towards the kinds of freeform ambient compositions that Budd had become known for as a producer. Having built somewhat on the more ethereal qualities of the group’s previous album, Victorialand, which was released earlier in 1986, it was ultimately a sound they didn’t take any further beyond The Moon And The Melodies.

Speaking about the record, the group’s Simon Raymonde said in a statement: “It captured a moment in time between friends that are enjoying making music together. Really, that’s the essence of it.”

4AD will release The Moon And The Melodies on August 23, 2024.
