Claire Rousay Reveals Surprise LP, ‘Wouldn’t Have To Hurt’

All proceeds from the new release will go to The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention and mental health charity for LGBTQ+ youth

claire rousay has released a surprise new album, called wouldn’t have to hurt.

Available digitally and on limited edition cassette, the three-track album sees the artist focus on her personal mental health struggles, having battled depression and panic disorder for the majority of her life. All proceeds from the sale of the album will be donated to The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organisation for LGBTQ+ youth. You can listen to the album’s title track just below, and purchase the record via Bandcamp.

"I go long periods feeling numb or empty, managing panic attacks and severe anxiety," rousay said in a statement about the topics covered on the new album. Its three tracks see the artist get to grips with field recordings, MIDI instruments, guitars and piano, while musician Theodore Cale Schafer also contributes piano and strings.

This is rousay’s second full-length release of 2022 to date, following on from everything perfect is already here, which came out on Shelter Press earlier this year.

wouldn’t have to hurt is out now on Mended Dreams.
