Chris Carter Announces New Solo Box Set

A new solo box set from Chris Carter will feature previously unreleased recordings, while he's also shared a new remix by Daniel Avery

Chris Carter has confirmed details of a new box set collecting some of his solo works, as well as a new EP of remixes.

The EP, titled Chemistry Lessons Volume 1.1 Coursework is an accompaniment to Carter’s recent album Chemistry Lessons Volume One which was his first solo album in 17 years. The EP features remixes by Daniel Avery (which you can hear above), Chris Liebing and the Radiophonic Workshop, as well as a rare track by Carter himself called ‘Bongo Glow’, which was previously only available on the Japanese version of his latest album. It’s due out on October 19 and can be pre-ordered here.

Speaking about his remix, Avery says: "Chris Carter has been a true musical inspiration for me over the years. He remains a unique figure in music and art in general, constantly creating and doing everything on his own terms. I kept most of the original sounds for the remix as they were so beautiful but extended them out and pushed the whole thing a little towards the strobe light."

The box set, entitled Miscellany, will follow on November 30. The retrospective release features his remastered solo albums alongside a disc of unreleased archival recordings from 1973-1977.

It will be available in a 6-piece vinyl box set limited to 1000 copies which will come with a 12-page 12" sized booklet featuring rare and unseen images and more. Both his 1998 album Disobedient and 1999 album Small Moon will be available on vinyl for the first time in this box set. Miscellany will also be released in CD form with the box set containing four discs and a 24-page booklet. You can pre-order either edition here .

Carter is also set to join the Mute takeover at London’s Rough Trade East on October 13 for a lunchtime modular performance, alongside the likes of A Certain Ratio, Simon Fisher Turner and more. You can find more details on that event here.
