Japanese folklore singer Chitose Hajime has enlisted the likes of Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tim Hecker and the late Ras G to remix some of her tracks for a new release. Below, you can hear a remix that Tim Hecker has done of ‘Nagakumo-Bushi’.
Hajime’s lyrics are delivered in the Amami shima uta style, otherwise known as a traditional form of music from Amami Islands of southern Japan. Dorian Concept, Shintaro Sakamoto and Chihei Hatakeyama have all also been called on to remix tracks from her 2018 album, Amami Shima-Uta.
Augusta Records will release Hajime-Uta Yūgen -Chitose Hajime Amami Shima-Uta Remix- on November 27. Next month, Ryuichi Sakamoto will release a new collaborative album with Alva Noto, titled TWO.
