LISTEN: Chicaloyoh’s New LP

Shelter Press, the excellent Belgian label and publisher who’ve previously put out releases by Pete Swanson and Rene Hell and Vallens, the side project of Barn Owl’s Jon Porras, have a new album in the works. Normandy multi-instrumentalist Alice Dourlen, will release her debut LP as Chicaloyoh, Folie Sacrée, through the label on September 15.

The record’s a mixture of bleak, sheer minimalism, sparse percussion underlining angular, interlocked guitar lines and organ drone sounds, which veer from the semi-devotional to needling, psych-ish runs. This all forms the backdrop to Dourlen’s vocals, ritualistic and haunting, with subtle shadings of Nico – listen in full below and pre-order the album over at Shelter Press’s website (though be snappy; it’s a vinyl-only release, limited to 500 copies):
