Caterina Barbieri Details New Album, ‘Spirit Exit’

She's also shared a video for lead track 'Broken Melody'

Caterina Barbieri has a new album on the way through her own light-years label.

Spanning eight tracks, Spirit Exit is the first of Barbieri’s albums to be fully written and recorded in her home studio, during a two-month pandemic lockdown period in Milan in 2020. Working on the record on her modular synth rig, she took inspiration from female philosophers, mystics and poets, with St. Teresa D’Avila’s 16th century mystical text The Interior Castle, philosopher Rosi Braidotti’s posthuman theories, and the metaphysical poetry of Emily Dickinson name-checked as particular influences on her work.

Among the eight cuts on the new record, which follows 2019’s Ecstatic Computation and last year’s album of ‘Fantas’ reworks, is an alternate synth-based version of Barbieri’s track ‘Knot Of Spirit’, the original of which was released last year with vocals from Lyra Pramuk. Ahead of the album’s release this July, you can watch a video for the lead track ‘Broken Melody’ above.

light-years will release Spirit Exit on July 8, 2022.
