Cassius Select, a producer hailing from Toronto, has previously explored the grittier end of techno as well as hard drum workouts in past releases for a number of other labels, but on his latest record, he debuts on Matthew Herbert’s recently launched Accidental Jnr label with a pair of productions that recall the percussion jams of Herbert’s past work.
Above, you can listen to ‘Herd’, a prime club weapon built around thwacking bass, a contorting vocal sample and sharp drums that carry a swing also reminiscent of some of Herbert’s best production. The record is set for release on April 21 and follows on from a strong run of recent releases taking in productions from emerging producer Bambooman as well as Jamie Lidell and Matthew Herbert himself.
Matthew Herbert, meanwhile, is also working on a new big band project protesting Brexit with a series of events and workshops taking place around Europe in the run-up to a new album being released on the day that the UK leaves the European Union in 2019. You can find more details on that here.
