Can Announce Singles Compilation

Can will release a singles collection in June via Spoon Records and Mute

Can, Spoon Records and Mute have announced the release of Can – The Singles, a new compilation featuring all of the band’s single releases set for release on June 16.

Can – The Singles includes cuts dating back to 1970, such as ‘Soul Train’ and ‘She Brings The Rain’, as well as 1979’s ‘Can-Can’ and 1989’s ‘Hoolah Hoolah’. It also includes rare singles such as ‘Silent Night’ and a 7” cut of ‘Turtles Have Short Legs’ from 1971, which you can hear above.

On April 8, an event will be hosted in The Barbican Centre in London to mark the band’s 50th anniversary. Keyboardist and founding member Irmin Schmidt will conduct the London Symphony Orchestra on the night, premiering an original orchestral work composed by him and Gregor Schwellenbach entitled Can Dialog .

The second half of the event will see a performance from The Can Project, a curated supergroup of sorts led by Thurston Moore and featuring the band’s original singer Malcom Mooney, though without drummer Jaki Liebezeit who sadly passed away earlier this year. The group, who will be re-interpreting Can’s music, also includes Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, My Bloody Valentine and Primal Scream’s Debbie Googe, James Sedwards, Pat Thomas, Valentina Magaletti and Tom Relleen.

The Can Project are also set to appear at this year’s Glastonbury, joined by Schmidt.
