Cairo Calling Electro Chaabi Project: Phase 2

Pinch, Mumdance and Faze Miyake in Egyptian capital playing with Chaabi MCs for Rinse, British Council and 100 Copies collaboration

In January, Electro Chaabi MCs Sadat, Diesel, Figo and Knka were in London to play a Boiler Room set as part of Cairo Calling, a collaborative project between the British Council, Rinse FM and Cairo label 100 Copies. Now, Pinch, Mumdance and Faze Miyake have made the return journey, recording in Salam City and playing the D-Caf Festival as part of a 100 Copies takeover last night.

All of the recorded material will be brought together in upcoming programmes on Rinse, who will also be broadcasting a documentary on Rinse TV and releasing an album of the material produced in the project. For the time being, check in for updates at the British Council’s music Twitter feed, watch the Boiler Room session again here, read up on Josh Hall meeting the Chaabi MCs in January here and take a look at our archive of Electro Chaabi in Cairo features.
