Cabaret Voltaire are set to showcase a selection of their earliest recordings via a new vinyl compilation due out next month, titled METHODOLOGY ’74-’78. Attic Tapes. Above, you can hear a special Methodology version of the trio’s classic track ‘Nag Nag Nag’ which features on the release.
Focusing on the first five years of Richard H. Kirk, Stephen Mallinder and Chris Watson’s project, the compilation will be released as a box set across seven pieces of clear vinyl. The release is limited to 500 worldwide and comes with an art print signed by Richard H. Kirk.
The box set, a press release explains, "charts the development of Cabaret Voltaire, starting from their early experimental period of ’74/’75". It features recordings made around the same period as those featured on 1974-76, which was recently reissued, and also features the original recordings of tracks such as ‘Nag Nag Nag’, ‘No Escape’, ‘The Set Up’, ‘Baader Meinhof’, ‘Here She Comes Now’ and ‘Do The Mussolini (Headkick)’ – all of which were later re-recorded with new equipment and released by Rough Trade in the late ’70s.
METHODOLOGY ’74-’78 Attic Tapes is due out on December 6. Richard H. Kirk is also currently working on a new Cabaret Voltaire album which is due in 2020.
