As we’ve previously announced, Sheffield pioneers Cabaret Voltaire are issuing a series of remastered reissues through Mute over the course of 2013 and 2014.
Following the recent release of Red Mecca, remastered by Pole’s Stefan Betke, they’ve now announced that #8385 (Collected Works 1983 – 1985) will be released on November 4th. A box set of four LPs, six CDs and two DVDs, it gathers together a cluster of their mid-period album releases, from the time following the departure of founder member Chris Watson.
The box set contains quite the clutch of material, headed up by four full-length albums on both CD and vinyl, 1983’s The Crackdown, 1984’s Micro-Phonies, 1985’s Drinking Gasoline and the same year’s The Covenant, The Sword & The Arm Of The Lord.
They’re accompanied by two CDs – one of their 12" tracks from the same time period, and another CD, titled Earthshaker, containing twelve as-yet-unreleased tracks (a real point of intrigue for long-established fans, one imagines) – as well as two DVDs, Cabaret Voltaire Live, collecting footage from two live shows, and Gasoline In Your Eye, "an experimental video showcase previously only available on VHS plus four promotional videos from the time."
Mute have collected together three tracks from the box set on Soundcloud for your listening pleasure, including a scorching 12" version of ‘Sensoria’.
#8385 will be followed up in early 2014 by #7885 (Electro Punk To Techno Pop 1978-1985), which promises to gather together all the Cabs material from that entire span of time in one place.
