Butthole Surfers To Record New Album

The alternative rockers will go back into the studio to record their first new release since 2001

Butthole Surfers are soon set to record their ninth studio album, with the record marking their first new music since 2001’s Weird Revolution.

As The Austin Chronicle reports, the news was casually broken by engineer and producer Stuart Sullivan at a recent meeting of the city’s music commission.

Days later, the band’s guitarist and co-founder Paul Leary confirmed the project, but no further details. The band last played live at Houston’s Day for Night festival last December, with an appearance at April’s Safe As Milk Festival being scrapped as a result of the festival’s cancellation.

A crowdfunding campaign to support a biography on the band’s legacy and work was recently launched. You can find more information on that here while you can read our recent interview with Paul Leary about the band’s 1987 album Locust Abortion Technician here.
