Plans to build a number of retail units and residential apartments near Peckham’s Bussey Building have apparently been put on hold following widespread disapproval.
As The Peckham Peculiar reports, the Bermondsey-based property company, Frame Property, that planned to redevelop 133 Rye Lane, has ‘paused’ its plans for the area with co-founder Nick Mansour saying: “It has never been our intention to have a negative impact on the Bussey Building – quite the opposite in fact.
“We have been listening to what local people have to say and we want to work with them. That’s why we have paused our planning application while we review the public’s comments alongside our plans.”
Consultation on the plans has so far attracted thousands of comments from those voicing their disapproval of the plans which Bussey Building’s owners said would “kill” the business fearing that the nightclub element of the business would face threat from noise complaints possibly leading to further consequences for Bussey Building and CLF Art Cafe’s role as a cultural hub in the community. The property company planned to add two extra storeys on the roof of 133 Rye Lane to build 11 new apartments as well as a number of retail units and restaurants.
