A week or so ago, the customary minor frenzy on social networks and online news sources took place after Hyperdub announced the upcoming release of a new EP from their man of (sort of) mystery Burial. Since the release of 2007’s widely loved Untrue he’s been sticking with the EP format, averaging a new release every year or so, and Rival Dealer – released today via Hyperdub’s website – is the follow up to 2012’s Truant. In keeping with that EP and its predecessor Kindred, it consists of three extended-length tracks, titled ‘Rival Dealer’, ‘Hiders’ and ‘Come Down To Us’. It’s pretty lazy to use current weather conditions as a lead in to describing music, but from where we’re sat at Quietus HQ it’s undeniably well timed – the fog’s hanging low over the Seven Sisters building sites in a suitably oppressive manner.
