Bryan Ferry said that Mercury Winners Alt J looked like they were “one step away from the dole queue” in an interview today. Speaking to Quietus editor John Doran for the first in a new series of short films for Noisey, the Roxy Music singer talked about his relationship with Andy Warhol, his vocal performance on ‘Virginia Plain’ and his love for jazz.
Talking about a photograph of the Mercury winning indie band he said mischievously: “It’s fascinating… because that was the sort of thing we didn’t want to do in ’72. I guess it’s a celebration of normality… one step from the dole queue.”
He also went on to describe how he kept his cool during a flight that nearly saw a plane he was travelling on, crash en route to Nairobi.
