Figures released by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) show that vinyl sales continued their steady increase in the UK last year.
Vinyl sales rose by 4.1% on the previous year making it the 12th consecutive year of growth. In all, 4.3 million LPs were sold in the country over the course of the 12 months.
Liam Gallagher’s latest album, Why Me? Why Not, was the best-selling for the year, shifting 29,000 vinyl copies. Billie Eilish’s debut album, When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go, took the second spot while the third went to an album originally released in 1977, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours.
The rest of the top 10 – aside from Lewis Capaldi’s debut, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, which placed at number six – is made up of albums released before 2019.
The BPI’s report finally revealed that from the figures collected by them, vinyl albums accounted for one in every eight albums purchased in the UK across digital and physical formats during 2019.
