A number of photos of David Bowie dating back to the 1970s are to be auctioned in London next month.

As The Guardian reports, the photos were captured by friend Geoff MacCormack in the 1970s, who was Bowie’s travelling companion for some of the decade. One of the photos depicts Bowie sleeping on the Trans-Siberian railway after a night drinking with soldiers and it makes up one of six signed images in the collection to be auctioned off at Bonhams in Knightsbridge, central London on June 28.

All of the photographs in the collections were taken informally by MacCormack rather than in any professional capacity. The photos were all signed by Bowie not long before his death in January 2016.

"For me, these images … almost feel as if they belong in a family album," MacCormack told The Guardian. "They capture the sense of two mates – one of whom just happened to have become a rock star – having the time of their lives."

The images come with estimates of £2,000-3,000 each and will be on display before the auction from June 25 and also on display, though not for sale, will be a 10-minute film of the train journey to Moscow for the May Day parade which was shot by Bowie himself and has never been shown to the public before.
