Quietus scribe and true gent Joel McIver has published his 186th book Glenn Hughes The Autobiography. (McIver wasn’t in Deep Purple, I think he ghost wrote it.)
Anyway, it’s up to his usual high standards and would make a brilliant stocking filler for a classic rock fan or someone with oblong legs.
The foreword is by Lars Ulrich of some band or other. There is a luxury version called ‘Deep Purple And Beyond’ which costs £550 or £300 depending on whether you want the version with a heavy white vinyl EP with exclusive tracks, published by Foruli.
For those with more realistic wallets there is the standard 15 quid softback on Jawbone Press.
As McIver says himself: "In the book G talks about the tsunami of groupies, coke, crack and ecstasy which he finally recovered from the 1990s when he got sober and sang on the KLF’s ‘What Time Is Love’. I got Iommi, Coverdale, Ozzy, Tom Morello, both of the KLF (a total coup) and a ton of others to do interviews for the book, dotted in between G’s narrative. It took four years and in November it hit No. 1 on Amazon.com’s Rock Reference chart. Woo hoo!"
