Bonnie “Prince” Billy Details New Album, ‘The Purple Bird’

He's also shared lead single 'Our Home'

Bonnie “Prince” Billy has a new album on the way, titled The Purple Bird.

The follow-up to 2023’s Keeping Secrets Will Destroy You takes in 12 new tracks, and is led by single ‘Our Home’, for which you can watch a video below. The song features mandolinist Tim O’Brien, and its visual stars both O’Brien and Bonnie “Prince” Billy, real name Will Oldham, in animated form.

The Purple Bird was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, and saw Oldham team up with producer David “Ferg” Ferguson, who has co-writing credits on seven of the tracks. It’s only the second time Oldham has worked with another producer for an album.

Speaking about Ferguson, Oldham said: “He’s a giant of a man, an epic musical force, a dear friend. Our work together on this record was the result of years of sharing hard times and great joys, songs and stories, of making music together and apart.

“There’s a lot of trust in this record on Ferg’s part and on mine, and the trust was hard- and well-earned. When I listen to the record, oftentimes I can’t help but laugh in wonder that life allowed me to participate in such a thing.”

Domiono / No Quarter will release The Purple Bird on January 31, 2025.
