LISTEN: Bong – Polaris

Opening track/one half of forthcoming new album Stoner Rock

Due in March on Ritual Productions, Bong are tackling head on the genre name they’re frequently freighted with on new album Stoner Rock. Say the Newcastle crew of the record’s title: "It is a tongue-in-cheek dig at our usual classification as stoner rock and what the term has come to represent. The idea is to create our own definition of ‘stoner rock’ by creating an album so utterly stoned and repetitive to be a million miles away from the usual definition. Those who know Bong already will get both the humour and the philosophical redefinition… those who don’t know us will either get it when they listen or will never understand Bong at all."

And to give you a taste of what they’re talking about, we’re excited to host a first play of album opener ‘Polaris’, and, at over 36 minutes, one of the the record’s two gargantuan movements, much like their last album, 2012’s Mana-Yood-Sushai (read up on our conversation with vocalist and bassist Dave Terry from around the time of that release here). Listen to the track, and bask in its ace, cosmos-traversing visual, above, and catch the band at Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands on April 10 and The Roadhouse in Manchester on June 14.
