Blue Note will launch a vinyl-only reissue series this December, covering classic albums from its vast archives.
Classic Vinyl Reissue Series follows on from the label’s Blue Note 80 reissue series, which last year saw the label mark its 80th anniversary with a run of archival re-releases.
The new series of reissues will begin with Lee Morgan’s The Sidewinder and McCoy Tyner’s The Real McCoy, with albums by the likes of Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, Horace Silver and Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers to follow them in 2021. All of the albums will be remastered from the original tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl. You can find the full list of records set to be reissued here.
This look into the vaults follows on from the release last month of Blue Note Re:imagined, a compilation that saw contemporary artists such as Shabaka Hutchings, Nubya Garcia, Ezra Collective and Melt Yourself Down rework tracks from the label’s archives.
Blue Note will reissue The Sidewinder and The Real McCoy on December 4, 2020.
