Block Universe To Host Nkisi & More

Nkisi and Paul Maheke set to collaborate on a performance in London using African cosmology

A new series of events in London called Block Universe will see Nkisi and artist Paul Maheke collaborate at Hoxton Hall later this month.

The two artists will come together to produce and present a performance which focuses on African cosmology from the Bantu-Kongo and creation stories. Nkisi will provide the show’s soundtrack with lighting design contributions from Ariel Efraim Ashbel, while Maheke performs. The show will be presented in New York and at the Venice Biennale after its debut in London on May 30 and 31.

Elsewhere on the Block Universe programme, Ravioli Me Away will present their brand new opera in its London debut at The Albany on June 1, and Sophie Jung will showcase an installation combining spoken word and sculpture from May 18 – June 2.

The Block Universe series will run across multiple London venues from May 18 – June 2. For more information and the full rundown of events, click here. Nkisi released an album focused on African Cosmology through Lee Gamble’s UIQ label earlier this year – read our review here.
