Bloc has issued a statement distancing the organisation from the comments made last week by co-founder George Hull.
Writing in the Spectator, Hull described today’s generation of clubbers as “spineless hipster” ravers in a rant that saw a number of people react angrily against both Hull and Bloc. In a post on Twitter, Bloc today said: Bloc is a collective. One guy from it wrote an article, and that doesn’t represent Bloc.
“Bloc extends a welcoming vibe to every single person who comes together to share in the experience. The vibe at every single rave, big or small, for the past ten years is testament to that. The kind of people who choose to go is testament to that.
“We were blown away by the crowd at this year’s weekender and want to sincerely thank you all.
“Love, power, respect, admiration – to you all.”
Hull described raves today as “too safe and boring” blaming “a monstrous cabal of overpaid DJs” and safer space policies among others for, he says, making raves too boring. This year’s Bloc Weekend was the last ever with the organisation now focusing its efforts into the venue that it owns in Hackney Wick. You can read our review of Bloc here.
