As we’ve previously announced, Blackest Ever Black are set to host their third annual end-of-year label party in London on October 12th at Corsica Studios. Presented in association with BleeD, it features most of the label’s key artists plus a few extras for good measure. Now, joining the previously announced names, the line-up has been rounded off with a killer trio of artists.
Chief among them is UK techno figurehead Regis (pictured, above), who ended last year’s party with a rousing surprise set that included an extreme early hours airing of the Dad’s Army theme. Fresh from the release of his Concrete Fence 12" with Russell Haswell on PAN, he’ll be playing his Necklace Of Bites set to celebrate 20 years of his label Downwards, a "disordered and resequenced" journey through the whole history of his output, from his brutal earliest releases to the controlled mania of Sandwell District.
Also added is Prurient, aka Dominick Fernow, who’s been making waves over the last 18 months with his politically charged Vatican Shadow project. Prurient is the older project, his most well-known and personal, and moved from beginnings in power electronics towards the frosty, synth-led melodic approach of more recent releases. It’ll be his first London show since 2009.
The line-up is completed with a DJ set from Raime, the first ever act to release on Blackest Ever Black and who have just released a 12" from their side project Moin via the label. Which means the full line-up looks like a heavyweight affair indeed: Tropic Of Cancer, Prurient, Regis, Dalhous, Shampoo Boy, Dva Damas, AD Jacques, Horsepower Productions, Felix K, Source Direct, Raime (DJ), Helena Hauff, Russell Haswell, Chris Farrell, Luke Younger, Brian Not Brian. It runs from 10pm-6am, and tickets are available from here.
Now, you might recall that in advance of last year’s Corsica Studios label showcase, we gave away a rather tasty prize – a heap of vinyl, totaling almost the entire of Blackest Ever Black’s 2012 output. And finally, to round out this Blackest Ever Black news update, the label have today announced that their next release will come from William Bennett’s voodoo music inspired Cut Hands project. Entitled Damballah 58 (you can see it at the bottom of the prize list above, too), it’s Bennett’s follow-up to his recent Madwoman 12" for Regis’ Downwards label and his first for Blackest Ever Black since last year’s pummeling Black Mamba 12".
Containing four tracks, for Damballah 58 we’re promised "diabolically addictive vaudou rhythms [that] insinuate deeply before uncoiling into an irrevocable reclamation of the consciousness". So, one imagines, something similar to the overwhelming psychological/physical battery of Bennett’s other Cut Hands releases. It’s set for release in late October, you can pre-order it here, and its tracklist runs as follows.
