Black Sun Announce Their Split

Glaswegian trio call it a day after 12 years

Glaswegian industrial metal trio Black Sun have today announced that they’re calling time on the band.

Commenting on the split, bassist Graeme Leggate says: “… It saddens me to say that Black Sun have now decided to call it quits. It’s been a wild ride, and I’ve had some of the best times of my life with this band. We’ve managed to do things and get to places I never thought possible when I joined the band over 10 years ago.

"It’s been a hard road at times, but I’m immensely proud of our achievements, none more so than our last record, Twilight Of The Gods. This band has and will always be a part of my life in some way, and I will never forget the times spent with my band mates Kevin [Hare, guitar] and Russell {MacEwan, vocals and drums].”

The band released four albums – Fleshmarket, Sacred Eternal Eclipse, Hour of The Wolf and Twilight Of The Gods – over their 12-year lifetime, notably culminating with their doom metal reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth at last year’s Arches LIVE festival in Glasgow.

Hare says of their decision: “I’d like to take this opportunity to give my most heartfelt love and thanks to all the people who’ve supported us for the last 12 years or so, whether it’s reviewers, interviewers, promoters, labels, other bands, friends, and most importantly fans, collectively you’ve made my world a better place for your support and good times," with Drum Major MacEwan adding: “R.I.P. Black Sun. I would like to wish Kevin and Graeme all the very best for the future. Onwards!"

MacEwan has a number of performances coming up, including ‘Lady MacBeth’, a collaboration with Jarboe of Swans at Buzzcut 2013 at the Glue Factory in Glasgow on March 31 and a set with body artist JonJohn at Edinburgh’s Torture Garden on April 13. He will also be hosting masterclass workshops on Black Sun’s MacBeth for Bath Spa University’s Contemporary Shakespeare in Practice Symposium on April 6.
