Speedy Wunderground’s first release of 2019 comes from Black Country, New Road, marking the 26th instalment in the label’s singles series with ‘Athen’s, France’. You can hear it above.
The track will be available digitally and on 7" vinyl in an edition of 250 on March 8. It’s the London via Cambridge six-piece’s first proper single and was recorded with Speedy Wunderground label head Dan Carey in his Streatham studio.
The track is said to cover "a spectacular return to bad form; a romantic encounter; and a chronic fear of intercourse." It sees the group fold in their respective instruments, including saxophone and violin.
The single’s production was one of the fastest for Speedy Wunderground. The session took place on a Sunday earlier this month with the song having finished being written only the day before. It was mixed and mastered by the following Wednesday ready for its March release.
The band play London’s Lexington tonight (January 18) and Moth Club on January 26. You can pre-order the single here.
