Black Country, New Road have signed to Ninja Tune and shared details of their debut album, For The First Time.
Due out early next year, For The First Time was recorded with producer and engineer Andy Savours during the early part of this year and then finished following the UK’s COVID-19 nation-wide lockdown. The album takes in six tracks, including re-interpretations of previous singles ‘Sunglasses’ and ‘Athens, France’. You can listen to the album’s lead track, ‘Science Fair’, above.
Speaking about the album, the group’s saxophonist Lewis Evans says that they "wanted it to sound exactly how [they] love to sound live," while frontman Isaac Wood adds that it is "basically representative of our first 18 months [as a band]."
Wood continues: "We see this as being a stop in the road. I’ve always been interested in a really honest portrayal of what a band is and what they’ve been working on. I think it’s really nice if people can see an artist like: this was them in the early days, this was their next phase and that they’re quite clear and honest about genuine progression as people and musicians."
In addition to the album’s announcement, Black Country, New Road have revealed plans for a pair of socially-distanced live shows at London’s Islington Assembly Hall on November 20 and 21. Find full details on those shows here.
Ninja Tune will release For The First Time on February 5, 2021.
