Björk Launches Kickstarter Project

Björk aiming to have the Biophilia apps reprogrammed for Windows and Android to help reach more people

Björk has started a Kickstarter campaign to have her Biophilia apps made available for Windows8, Android and Mac Desktop.

Currently available only for iPhones, iPads and iPod touches, the apps form the core of the Biophilia Educational Program, launched with 2011’s Biophilia album, which aims to teach students the link between science, music and technology.

By making the apps available for Windows and Android, the hope is to increase the reach of the program. Says Björk: "The Biophilia Educational Program is a new way to teach children about science and music. It has met with success in many cities, sparking interest from kids and educators from all over the world, from South America to East Asia to Africa. The most interest has come from students from low-income households and schools with underfunded art budgets, and the only way to bring the project to those people is to have Biophilia reprogrammed for Android and Windows 8. The Biophilia educational project is strictly non-profit and volunteer-based, and that’s why we need your help.”

You can make a pledge over at the Kickstarter page here – with anything from a download of the app all the way to a VIP entry ticket to one of Björk’s Biophilia Residency shows taking place this year in Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Tokyo.

Since premiering the Biophilia show, complete with its MIDI-controlled pipe organ and Tesla coils, at the Manchester International Festival in 2011, Björk’s gone on to run educational workshops in New York, Oslo, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Reykjavík, where the project’s set to continue for the next three years.
