Beth Gibbons, Ghetts and Others Nominated for 2024 Mercury Prize

Charli XCX and English Teacher also feature among the 12 albums nominated this year

The 12 nominees for this year’s Mercury Prize have been revealed, with Beth Gibbons’ solo debut album, Lives Outgrown, and grime veteran Ghetts’ fourth studio album, On Purpose, With Purpose, featuring among the records to get the nod.

Charli XCX’s latest record, BRAT, also appears on the list, while debut full-length records by English Teacher (This Could Be Texas), Nia Archives (Silence Is Loud), Barry Can’t Swim (When Will We Land?), Cat Burns (Early Twenties), The Last Dinner Party (Prelude To Ecstasy) and corto.alto (Bad With Names) have been nominated too.

The 2024 list is rounded out by albums from BERWYN (Who Am I), CMAT (Crazymad, For Me) and Corinne Bailey Rae (Black Rainbows).

This year’s list was comprised of albums by British and Irish acts released between July 15, 2023 and July 12, 2024 in the UK. Acts or record labels must have also paid a fee to submit a record for consideration in the list.

Last year’s prize was won by Ezra Collective for Where I’m Meant To Be, and Lankum and Jockstrap were among the other nominees. This year’s winner will be revealed in September.
