Berlin’s Hard Wax Record Shop To Move Location

The famed store's current Kreuzberg base will soon be turned into luxury flats

Famed Berlin record shop Hard Wax is moving premises later this month.

Writing on X (formerly Twitter), the team behind the record store confirmed the moving date as October 30. Its new base will be at the Kraftwerk complex on Köpenicker Strasse in the Mitte area of Berlin. It will be housed between the clubs Tresor and OHM.

The Mark Ernestus-founded Hard Wax opened on Reichenberger Strasse in 1989 before moving to Paul-Lincke-Ufer in 1996. It’s leaving its current Kreuzberg site due to plans to redevelop the building housing the shop into luxury flats. In addition to Hard Wax, the building is also currently home to a number of other business, including vinyl cutting house and audio mastering studio Dubplates & Mastering. All of the businesses will have to relocate due to the redevelopment.
