Berlin Atonal is launching a new festival concept later this year, called X100.
The three-day event, which will take place at Berlin’s Kraftwerk building, will celebrate the musical legacy of the late Romanian-born, French composer Iannis Xenakis 100 years on from his birth. Much like Berlin Atonal, the lineup will include a number of specially commissioned performances and world premieres, with one such commission seeing Puce Mary and PAN label boss Bill Kouligas teaming up with a number of special guests to present a show that is inspired by Xenakis’ uses of mathematical models and game theory.
Also on the bill, Moritz von Oswald will premiere Metameric 1.2, for which he will join percussionist Adam Weisman and pianist Prodromos Symeonids to reimagine four classic Xenakis pieces; Pan Daijing will debut a new live show with an ensemble of opera singers; Lee Gamble will play live; and Kali Malone will present Living Torch, which was composed at GRM studios in Paris between 2020 and 2021.
The lineup for the debut X100, which precedes the return of the main Berlin Atonal festival next year, is rounded out by performances from the likes of Rashad Becker, Valentina Magaletti, dreamcrusher, Marcus Schmickler, and Haswell & Hecker, among others.
X100 will take place from November 18 to 20, 2022. Find more information here.
