Part of Berghain has reopened to host a sound installation.
The venue’s Kessel Hall, which is frequently open during events as Halle am Berghain, is currently home to eleven songs, an installation by sound artists tamtam, AKA Sam Auinger and Hannes Strobl. As AFP reports, just 50 people are allowed to take in the installation at one time in order to allow for physical distancing.
Auinger and Strobl’s installation makes use of the huge industrial setting of the hall, using it as an additional instrument. AFP reports that sounds in the installation include "rhythmic throbbing, soft city noises, murmurings and even the whirling of helicopter blades." The project, which runs until August 2, was planned well before COVID-19 took hold around the world, and is the only event Berghain has been able to host since its coronavirus-enforced shutdown in March.
