As we’ve previously reported, former Everything But The Girl man Ben Watt is releasing his first solo album since 1983’s North Marine Drive this year. Hendra is out on April 14 via Watt’s Unmade Road imprint, and is the end result of returning to the kind of folk-oriented material he was writing before EBTG, recorded with Bernard Butler and producer Ewan Pearson, alongside a guest spot from David Gilmour no less.
Says Watt: "In the end I wrote the songs for Hendra unexpectedly. My sister died suddenly as I was finishing the book. I think it all came to a head. My mind was full of a lot of stuff. I just went down into the basement at home every night and retuned all my guitars into unfamiliar tunings as a way of beginning again and just started singing."
Watt and Butler will be doing an eight-date tour around the release of the album, but before that, they’ll be playing two shows at St. Pancras Old Church, starting at the end of this week, February 23 and 24.
