Ben Frost has shared details of a new record, Broken Spectre.
Out next month, the 12-track record was produced from pitched-down recordings of the ultra-high frequency sounds emitted by local fauna in parts of the Amazon rainforest, covering Ecuador, the Pantanal wetlands, Yanomami territory and elsewhere.
In a statement about the record, Frost said: "Over the past three years, Richard Mosse, Trevor Tweeten and myself traversed the Amazon documenting its destruction. To witness this systematic destruction firsthand was to travel back in time, and reflect upon the scarred landscapes of Europe, the US and particularly for me, Australia."
"This album is ultimately a document of failure. A failure of our democracies, a failure of political will, a failure of imagination, and creatively, my own failure to communicate through sound the vast scale of the Amazon and the ongoing damage inflicted upon it by the policies of Jair Bolsonaro."
Photographer Richard Mosse, who accompanied Frost on his travels of the Amazon, has produced a film about the expedition, also called Broken Spectre. It’s on show at London’s 180 The Strand until December 4 after premiering last month.
The Vinyl Factory will release Broken Spectre on December 5, 2022.
