Tonight, BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction show will be broadcasting a session Newcastle avant-folk singer and guitarist Richard Dawson recorded with Appalachian old-time band the Black Twig Pickers.

UPDATE – October 25: Listen to the programme in full here.

The set comes as part of Late Junction’s Collaboration series, which seeks to bring together acts that have never performed together, and has previously united Tunng and Tinariwen members, Kate Tempest and the Elysian Quartet, Field Music and Warm Digits, Max de Wardener and Oliver Coates, Nils Frahm, Ghostpoet and Hyelim Kim, Robin the Fog and Franziska Lantz and Tortoise and Colin Newman, with the latter’s collaboration featuring in John Herndon’s Strange World Of Tortoise as told to tQ.

The show comes ahead of Dawson’s set at this weekend’s Bring To Light festival in Birmingham, and you can read our Escape Velocity interview him from earlier this year here.

Tune into Late Junction here from 11 pm for the session.
