BBC Deny Doherty Drama Rumours

Sun knew story was “completely false” but published it anyway

A BBC spokesperson has denied that they have commissioned Peter Doherty to write a new TV drama series.

Reports in The Sun today claimed that Doherty had already begun work on the pilot episode of a ‘Skins-style’ drama exploring “the dark side of the music industry”.

But a spokesperson for the Beeb has rubbished the rumours as “completely false”, telling The Quietus that The Sun knew there was “no truth whatsoever” in the story – published in Gordon Smart’s ‘Bizarre’ column today – before they went to print.

Doherty was actually at London’s Television Centre to film an appearance on this evening’s Friday Night With Jonathan Ross.
