Serafina Steer's Bas Jan project shares new video for 'No Sign'; watch below

Bas Jan is a new band project from Serafina Steer and above, you can take a first look at the video for new track ‘No Sign’.

The video depicts all three band members acting out some curious choreography, appearing in multiple forms as the clip goes on. The track is the first release from the three-piece following support slots for Cate Le Bon and Meilyr Jones.

Primarily known as a harpist and songwriter, Steer started learning bass guitar for the new project. "I wanted to find a way of writing music with more power and energy that I felt I lost with the harp," she says.

Initially writing music as a pair, alongside performance artist Jenny Moore, they then recruited ex-Chromehoof violinist and composer Sarah Anderson, to complete the group. The trio are named after named after the Dutch conceptual artist Bas Jan Ader who was last seen setting out to sail across the Atlantic in 1975.

"’No Sign’ is about someone I lived in a house-share with," says Steer. "Her nocturnal wanderings became somewhat legendary so when she’d finally show up after a few days I was always desperate to know what had happened this particular time.  As well as mounting curiosity and concern, in a Camus-like way I wanted to express the envy, busybody-ness and competitiveness behind some of these emotions."

‘No Sign’ will be available to download and stream from this Friday (February 10) while a five-track, self-titled EP is set for release on March 10.
